Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Spokane WA
1249 AM PDT Sat Jun 7 2025

.KEY MESSAGES...

- Widespread Moderate to locally Major HeatRisk Saturday through
Monday.

- Dry and breezy with elevated fire weather concerns Wednesday and
Thursday.

- Potential cooldown and mountain rain at the end of next week.

&&

.SYNOPSIS...
Temperatures will warm into the mid to high 90s by Sunday with
widespread Moderate HeatRisk Saturday through Monday. Breezy winds
Wednesday and Thursday will lead to increased fire weather concerns.
At the end of next week, temperatures will cool down and chances for
mountain precipitation increase.

&&

.DISCUSSION...
Temperatures continue to increase as the ridge just off the
Pacific Northwest coast moves eastward. On Monday, the ridge will
be almost directly above the state of Washington, resulting in
Monday being the hottest day of the warmup. Widespread high
temperatures are anticipated to be in the mid to high 90s. Some
places within the deeper Columbia Basin areas could reach 100
degrees. Areas in particular that the NBM has a 60 percent chance
or higher of seeing triple digits include Wenatchee, Ephrata,
Moses Lake, and Lewiston. Starting Sunday night, poor overnight
temperature recoveries will lead to widespread moderate Heat Risk
values throughout most of the forecast area, with some isolated
major Heat Risk values. Monday will be the day with the highest
major Heat Risk coverage. With major Heat Risk values, most of the
population is at risk of heat related illnesses if they do not
have access to adequate cooling or hydration. A Heat Advisory has
been issued for much of the forecast area, starting on Sunday for
central Washington and Lewiston, and Monday for eastern
Washington and the Idaho Panhandle. An Extreme Heat Watch has been
issued for the Moses Lake and Wenatchee areas from Sunday
afternoon through Tuesday evening. As the ridge breaks down
midweek, Heat Risk values drop to minor for much of the area by
Wednesday.

Alongside the increase in temperatures and Heat Risk, fire weather
concerns return midweek. As the ridge weakens beginning Monday and
zonal flow prevails through the area, winds will increase for the
Waterville Plateau, Wenatchee, and Central Chelan county areas. In
particular, Wednesday and Thursday night have the best potential for
gusts 35 mph or higher. With relative humidity values dropping into
the high teens during these days as well, there is an increased
chance for fire weather conditions. Should models continue favoring
gusty winds and low relative humidity values, fire headlines for
next week may be needed.

Long-term model guidance is hinting at a break from the dry and
heat, with signals of a trough moving through the end of next
week. This trough would bring the potential of much needed rain to
the mountains and a significant cooldown, with temperatures
looking to drop down into the 70s. The Climate Prediction Center`s
most recent 6-10 and 8-14 Day Outlooks show increased chances of
lower than normal temperatures and higher than normal
precipitation. /AS
